Custom software development

A system shaped around how your business actually operates, including the shortcuts your staff take, rather than a template you have to bend to fit. We build it, we host it, and we stay on to run it.

Most businesses reach a point where the spreadsheet stops coping. Two people are editing the same file, the numbers stop matching, and somebody spends a day a week copying figures between systems. Off the shelf software solves that for businesses whose process matches the software. If yours does not, you end up changing how you work to suit a product, and your staff quietly go back to the spreadsheet.

Custom software is the answer when the way you operate is the thing that makes you money, or when no product on the market covers the combination of jobs you need done. We map how the work actually happens, write it up as a scope you can argue with, and build in stages you can see.

What does a custom build include?

Discovery you can read

We sit with the people doing the work, not only the owner, and write up what the system must do and what it will deliberately not do in version one. You get that in plain language before anything is quoted.

A fixed quote

Once the scope is agreed, the price is fixed. If you change the scope later, we requote that change rather than absorbing it quietly and cutting corners elsewhere.

Built in stages

You get a link to a working version early and keep getting updates. Corrections happen while they are cheap, not at handover when they are expensive.

Roles and permissions

Who can see what, who can approve what, and who can change a number after the fact. This is usually where the real requirements hide.

An audit trail

Money movements, approvals and administrative edits recorded against the user who made them, so you can answer a hard question a year later.

Migration and training

Your existing data comes across, your staff are trained on the real system with real records, and we watch the first week closely.

Questions

What do people ask about custom software development?

How much does a custom system cost?

It depends entirely on scope, so we do not publish a figure. What we can promise is the sequence: a call, then a written scope, then a fixed quote before any development starts. You will know the number before you commit, and it will not move unless you change the scope.

How long does it take?

A custom build is usually months rather than weeks, depending on how much of it we have solved before. We give a range in writing after scoping. Anyone giving you an exact date for a system they have not scoped is guessing.

What if an existing product would do the job?

We will tell you. If one of our own products or a white-label deployment covers what you need, that is faster and cheaper than a custom build and we would rather sell you that. If your problem is a process problem, we will say that too, instead of quoting.

Who owns the result?

Scope, price and ownership are agreed in writing before any code is written, and you receive the rights set out in that agreement. If the relationship ends, you get an export of your data in a usable format.

Tell us what you are trying to fix

Send a short description of the problem rather than a feature list. If we are a fit, we will come back with an approach and a price. If we are not, we will say so.
